Our 2020 tour will take us to Lisbon. The second oldest capital city in Europe after Athens and the capital of England’s oldest ally, Portugal, Lisbon is rich in history, art and architecture.
Our 6 day, 5 night tour will include:
- Coach transfer from Grayshott or Liphook to Heathrow for scheduled flight to Lisbon.
- Two guided city tours taking us to different parts of the city from mediaeval to modern.
- A full day at the nearby picturesque mountain town of Sintra with its two marvellous palaces, one a UNESCO World Heritage site
- The magnificent Gulbenkian Museum containing one of the world’s foremost art collections, ranging from antiquity to the 20th C.
- The beautiful 16th century Jerónimos Monastery
- The Berardo Collection of modern art from Picasso to the present day
- The lovely Palacio dos Marquesas de Fronteira and its gardens
- A scenic and historical excursion to the village of Sesmibra and hill town of Palmela
The brochure from Tailored Travel gives more details and a booking form. You can download it here.
While there will be some free time every day during our tour, we have deliberately scheduled excursions on one full day and one half day as options (but included in the tour) so those who prefer to have more time to explore Lisbon independently, or just to relax, can do so.
While the coach will take us to most places, you will need to be reasonably mobile as there will inevitably be quite a bit of walking and Lisbon is somewhat hilly.
HOTEL (Website: www.hfhotels.com/hotels-en/hf-fenix-urban-en )
The Fenix Urban is a modern 4* hotel furnished in a contemporary style. It’s just north of the city centre in a quieter area and close to metro and bus stops. It has its own restaurant but there are plenty of others nearby. Rooms in the hotel are all en-suite with hairdryers and safes in the room. But as in many parts of Europe, rooms are unlikely to have tea and coffee facilities (we pack a travel kettle and tea bags!). Single travellers will probably have a double or twin room for single use but they might have a single room.
Dinner is included at the hotel on the first night and at a local restaurant on the last night. On the other evenings, you can dine in the hotel or wherever you wish. I will provide details of some restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Our guide will show us the best places for lunch.
On average, maximum daily temperatures in late April are about 20 C, dropping to 12 C at night. There’s usually a lot of sunshine but some rain is possible.
£1089 pp sharing. Single supplement £129. You make payments to Tailored Travel, who operate the tour for us. They have many years’ experience and we have used them before.
You must have travel insurance. Either arrange your own or take out the one offered by Tailored Travel at £44. Note that this is designed for people with no pre-existing medical conditions. If you have your own insurance, fill in the details where shown on the back of the booking form.
HOW TO BOOK
Please fill in the form in the Tailored Travel brochure and send it to me at the address on the front of the brochure or hand it in at the Visits Desk at a meeting. Please include payment for your deposit of £150 per person and, if you are taking the company’s travel insurance, the premium of £44 per person.
You can pay by debit or credit card or by cheque. If by card, please fill in your card details on the booking form. Cheques must be payable to Tailored Travel. You’ll need to pay the balance, direct to Tailored Travel, by 1 March 2020. Note that they don’t accept credit cards for the final balance.
On receipt of your booking and deposit, I will send you an acknowledgment but then hold your booking until we have reached the number of people needed to run the trip. So your deposit won’t be cashed until we know the trip is viable.
