From the 15th century peasants drying their clothes through the 17th century Frost Fairs on the Thames, to 19th century skaters on the Bois de Boulogne, this lecture will trace how artists have responded to the challenges of winter. Over 500 years of artistic shivering!
Along the chilly way we will encounter artists whom we usually associate with warmer climes. For others, such as the Impressionists, it was a way to explore their new techniques and different ways of dealing with the light and colour of the season.
Over 500 years of instructive shivering!
