On a beautiful sunny, summer’s afternoon we celebrated our 30th Anniversary with a very enjoyable Garden Party at Cross Farm, Shackleford.
It was lovely to be joined there by so many of those who have been part of our society over the years. Our Founder Chairman, Sheila Sheath and two founder members, Wendy Bennett and Libby Mason, joined previous Chairmen and Presidents, current members and committee to enjoy this special occasion. We were fortunate too to have June Robinson, the National Chairman of NADFAS and Janet Pooley , the Hampshire and I.O.W. Area Chairman join us to celebrate thirty years of Grayshott DFAS.
On such a warm summer’s afternoon, as everyone mingled in the inviting garden, the liquid refreshment on arrival was particularly welcome. As for the canapes, suffice to say that numerous comments were passed on their abundant variety and delicious flavours. However, no Garden Party would be complete without the strawberries and no Anniversary celebration complete without a cake. Somehow we found room for both! The cake, another example of a local Master Baker’s skill, was cut by June Robinson, ably assisted by Janet Pooley and our Chairman, John Sherwood.
Rounding off the afternoon, John recalled some of the key moments in the history of Grayshott DFAS and gave an insight into its intrinsic strengths. June then shared with us some of her aims and plans, for her time as National Chairman, before revealing whart she saw as the strengths of GDFAS and the aspects of our society that had most impressed her.
After these very encouraging remarks and such a truly enjoyable celebration, all that was left was to look forward to the next equally or even more successful thirty years!
