We’re thinking of arranging a tour to Spain or Portugal in 2020. I’ve had some initial discussions with tour operators about possible destinations. In order to assess the likely level of interest, I’d be grateful for your views on different options.
The tour would probably be in late April for 4 to 6 nights. The cost might be in the region of £900 – £1200, depending on length and destination, plus a single supplement if applicable. By air from Gatwick or Heathrow, staying in 4 star hotels. Fully guided.
Some Potential Highlights
Madrid with Segovia and Toledo: 5 nights – Madrid’s famous Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofia museums. Visits to World Heritage listed Toledo, with its fortified Alcazar and grand cathedral, and to Segovia with its Romanesque buildings and Roman acqueduct plus beautiful mediaeval Avila. World Heritage site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
Madrid with Segovia and Salamanca: 6 nights – similar to above, excepting Toledo and San Lorenzo de El Escorial but with 2 nights in Salamanca, regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, rich in heritage, art and culture.
Andalucia: 5 nights – Granada (Alhambra Palace and Generalife gardens), Cordoba (Mezquita mosque), Seville (Royal Palace, cathedral, Fine Arts museum, dramatically situated Ronda or possibly visit to Jerez and Cadiz. 2 nights in Granada and 3 in Seville.
Lisbon and around: say 4 nights – historic Lisbon, including the mediaeval quarter, royal palaces and ‘Portuguese Versaille, World Heritage Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and Gulbenkian museum. Visits to UNESCO World heritage site at Sintra, historic and picturesque villages of Quelez, Sesimbra, or Palmela.
How interested in principle would you be in a tour to any of these (subject to itinerary and price)?
